Talking Scents is a podcast where people share their stories through smell. This project was one of the first of its kind to explore smell as an interface for how humans experience the world around them through olfaction.
I captured over 200 sound bites of memories, experiences and connections to smell, good, bad, complex. On this page, you can find a sample of 60. Simply press play and the playlist automatically runs through the course of the sound bites.
Consider how others capture their experiences, through their own viseral and sensory experiences, their idealized and compacted memory. What is it about smell that makes us speak so subjectively? This was my journey to learn more.
One of the goals of this work-in-progress is to create a smell library and an archive of various memories where other designers can use the data to create other projects and build on the work. The Transcript and Aggregation of this data is in-progress.
